Gender-responsive industrial policies: webinar shares practical approaches for policymakers

Published on January 30th 2026

On 29 January, Dr Jennifer Castañeda-Navarrete spoke at a webinar co-hosted by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), focused on driving growth and sustainable development through gender-responsive industrial policies.

The webinar brought together policymakers, international organisations, academic experts and industry stakeholders to examine how embedding gender equality and women’s economic empowerment into industrial policy design can enhance policy effectiveness, accelerate economic growth, and support sustainable development.

Jennifer contributed to the session with a presentation on Mainstreaming a gender perspective in industrial policy, drawing on CIIP’s research and practical policy experience. Her talk explored why gender responsiveness matters for industrial outcomes, how inclusive innovation can be embedded across policy processes, and what governments can do in practice to ensure industrial policies deliver broader social and economic benefits. The presentation also highlighted international examples and case studies, including approaches from the UK and the Asia-Pacific region.

The event also featured speakers from ADBI, the International Labour Organization, and UNIDO, with sessions covering gender-responsive sectoral policies, labour market outcomes, and implementation challenges.

The webinar recording is now available, and Jennifer’s presentation slides can be accessed below:
