Plan Yucatán: a long-term industrial policy roadmap for 2025–2050

The Government of Yucatán, in collaboration with Cambridge Industrial Innovation Policy and with support from Open Society Foundations, has published Plan Yucatán: Industrial Policy of the State of Yucatán 2025–2050.

The policy sets out a long-term roadmap for strengthening Yucatán’s industrial development, competitiveness and prosperity, grounded in evidence, planning and coordination across government, industry and other stakeholders.

The policy draws on an extensive analytical exercise examining Yucatán’s capabilities, challenges and opportunities, including human talent, energy infrastructure, logistics connectivity, business capabilities and sectors with the greatest potential to strengthen competitiveness over the coming decades.

Its aim is to translate this analysis into practical action: developing the skills required by emerging industries, strengthening infrastructure, energy and logistics, supporting more competitive businesses and increasing the integration of Yucatán’s firms into regional, national and international value chains.

At its heart is an ambition to ensure that industrial development delivers tangible benefits for people across the state, including better-paid jobs, stronger businesses and a more competitive, inclusive and sustainable economy.

About the project

This work forms part of a wider Open Society Foundations-supported project through which Cambridge Industrial Innovation Policy is helping governments in Mexico and Indonesia strengthen the design and implementation of green industrial strategies. The project focuses on building government capacity and translating long-term strategies into practical programmes and policy instruments.
