Industrial Policy Perspectives: Practical insights for effective, inclusive and sustainable industrial policy

Published on November 4th 2026

Industrial Policy Perspectives is a series of thematic policy briefs developed by Cambridge Industrial Innovation Policy (CIIP) at the University of Cambridge, as part of an Open Society Foundations-funded project supporting governments in Mexico and Indonesia.

The series aims to bridge the gap between long-term industrial policy ambitions and practical implementation, offering evidence-based analysis, international examples and actionable policy insights to help policymakers address key industrial development challenges.

The policy briefs will be available in English, Spanish and Bahasa Indonesia, supporting knowledge sharing and practical policy development across different contexts.

An introduction to green industrial policy: concepts, industrial needs, and policy options

The first brief in the series introduces the key concepts, industrial needs and policy options associated with green industrial policy and green industrial transitions.

It explores the distinct challenges of industrial decarbonisation and green industrialisation, and examines how governments can support these transitions through coordinated policy packages. Drawing on international experience, the brief provides a practical foundation for designing and implementing effective green industrial strategies.
