CIIP joins panel exploring Net Zero manufacturing at World Economic Forum in Davos

Published on January 23rd 2025

Cambridge Industrial Innovation Policy’s David Leal-Ayala spoke at the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos at the session ‘Net Zero Industry in an Intelligent Age: What does it take to scale climate technologies?’

David spoke alongside Benoit Lemaignan (Verkor), Lauren Dunford (Guidewheel), Jose Noldin (GravitHy), in the session presented and moderated by Pierre Bagnon and Amira El Araki from Capgemini Invent.

Drawing from the latest WEF Industry Net Zero Accelerator initiative paper: ‘United for Net Zero: Public-Private Collaboration to Accelerate Industry Decarbonization’, the discussion explored the latest trends and innovations in climate technology scale-up.

Co-authored by David Leal-Ayala of Cambridge Industrial Innovation Policy (CIIP), the paper forms part of a series of activities by the World Economic Forum’s Industry Net Zero Accelerator to help businesses to collaborate and accelerate change across industrial sectors. It provides eight ways for manufacturers to collaborate with public organisations and overcome challenges on the path to achieving net zero emissions.

By informing strategic-level decisions and structuring the dialogue between private and public sector stakeholders, the paper serves as a practical roadmap for businesses looking to engage in public-private collaborations to accelerate decarbonisation.

David commented, “My main takeaway from the session was that although challenging, climate tech scale-up and large-scale deployment is possible under the right policy and market conditions, as shown by my fellow panellists.”

The World Economic Forum launched the Industry Net Zero Accelerator initiative in 2022 in collaboration with knowledge partners Cambridge Industrial Innovation Policy and Capgemini, Rockwell Automation and Siemens, as well as a community of more than 30 global manufacturing companies to help accelerate the industry transition to net zero.
