Marco Kamiya is a UNIDO Representative (UR) in Jakarta, for Indonesia, Timor Leste, Malaysia and the Philippines, and focal point for ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations).

Marco Kamiya, a Japanese national born in Peru, works globally on innovation, frontier technologies and productive development policies. At UNIDO, he leads country management, operational work, and normative policy research.
He was the Chief of the Division of Digital Transformation and AI Strategies at UNIDO Headquarters in Vienna, and previously coordinator of the Urban Economy and Finance Branch at UN-Habitat in Nairobi, Kenya. Principal Regional Executive at CAF Development Bank for Latin America at the Department of Public Policy, and Competitiveness Specialist on Innovation Policies for the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington DC. Senior Consultant at PADECO Co., Ltd. in Tokyo where he was director/deputy director of international projects working worldwide with the Inter-American Development Bank, World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank.

His publications include “Digital Economic Transformation for Growth” (March 2023, UNDESA-UNEN); “The Shenzhen Story: Innovation Policies in Practice (UN-Habitat, 2019); “Economic Foundations for Sustainable Urbanization” (2018), UN-Habitat & Morphologie Institute Paris); “Finance for City Leaders Handbook (2018, co-editor, UN-Habitat and University College London), the “Global Urban Competitiveness Report” (co-edited with Prof. Ni Pengfei, Springer, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences).
