Winners announced for Babbage Industrial Innovation Policy Awards 2021

The Babbage Forum are delighted to announce there are three joint winners of the inaugural Babbage Industrial Innovation Policy Awards 2021. The judges were very impressed with the quality of the entries they received and faced a tough choice to choose our winners. Of the many papers we received, seven were given highly commended (below) and three winners were given joint first.

The winners are (in alphabetical order):
Jaime Bonnin Roca – Policy mixes to tackle the many faces of uncertainty in emerging technologies
Jaime Bonnin Roca is an Assistant Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Innovation, Technology Entrepreneurship and Marketing Group, at Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands. He completed his PhD (2017) in Engineering and Public Policy in a dual program between Carnegie Mellon University (USA) and Universidade de Lisboa (Portugal). His research focuses on the role of uncertainty in entrepreneurship and technology adoption, especially in manufacturing industries, and the role of public organizations and policy in shaping that uncertainty. Besides research, he teaches courses related to decision analysis and technology forecasting.

Benoit Tezenas Du Montcel – A process model for industrial innovation policy when facing paradigmatic shifts
Benoit Tezenas du Montcel is Assistant Professor at Institut Mines-Télécom Business School and Associate Lecturer at Ecole Polytechnique. He holds a bachelor from University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (2013), a Master from University Paris-Dauphine (2015) and a PhD from the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (Cnam, 2019). He was also a visiting PhD student at the Institute for Manufacturing, University of Cambridge. His research and teaching activities focus on Strategic Management of new technologies and innovation. In his research, he specifically investigates relational strategies, 3D printing, and technologies of the industry 4.0.

Jon Mikel Zabala Iturriagagoitia – Implementing innovation-related public procurement: ordinary, dynamic and functional capabilities

Jon Mikel Zabala-Iturriagagoitia is Associate Professor at the Deusto Business School, University of Deusto in San Sebastian (Spain). He is also affiliated to CIRCLE at Lund University (Sweden), and to the USN School of Business in Kongsberg, at the University of South-Eastern Norway (Norway) He received his PhD from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain) in Engineering and Innovation Projects (2008). During the PhD, he was a visiting researcher at the Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT). After the PhD he moved to CIRCLE at Lund University (Sweden) as a post-doc, where he also hold an assistant professorship. In 2013 he got a Marie Curie Fellowship that allowed him to join the Deusto Business School. In 2018 he was a visiting researcher at HEC Montreal (Canada).
His main research skills and interests include innovation policy, innovation management, and the use of indicators to inform policy decisions and evaluations related to innovation. He has published more than 50 scientific articles in the most prestigious journals related to innovation, as well as 15 book chapters, having also edited two books.
